During his trip to the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) area, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov checked the state of supply and combat readiness of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Luhansk tactical force.
NSDC Secretary Turchynov said that the section of the front line covered by Luhansk tactical force is shelled daily by the enemy with the use of Minsk-banned weapons like artillery, tanks, MLRSes, and mortars.
“Every week, several skirmishes occur,” Turchynov said, adding that the enemy persists in its attempts to break through the defenses of the Ukrainian Army in Bakhmnutska motorway direction that reaches several strategically important defenses.
“However, all provocations by the hybrid Russian troops are briskly stopped by our military’s professional acts,” Turchynov said.
The NSDC secretary visited the positions of the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade at the front line of Ukrainian defenses in Krymske, Novotoshkivske, and Novozvanivka. The Brigade is an important link in the overall defense system of Luhansk tactical force, Turchynov said.
He said the biggest number of provocations are conducted in Luhansk sector, where the 58th Brigade is stationed.
Turchynov discussed with ATO commanders, officers and soldiers the most important issues of military and technical supply to combat units in the frontline of the defenses.
He said the defense expenses will be increased after amendments to the state defense order is made due to amendments in the budget.
“The amendments to the state defense order must take into account the real needs of the Armed Forces combat units, who counter the Russian aggression directly; not the proposals of officials who sometimes do not take the real frontline situation into account,” the NSDC secreary said.
Turchynov said that when the budget for next year is planned, it needs to include “a priority increase in the payments to military, which should not be lower than that of public officials.”
“Decent salaries to our soldiers and officers are a matter of reliability of our defenses and the national security of the country,” Turchynov said.
