Today’s deploying of the five Earth observation satellites for Peru and Google marks 7th successful launch in a row of Vega rocket
Today at 4:43 Kyiv time European light class rocket “Vega” was successfully launched from the Kourou spaceport in French Guiana, Ukrainian Space Agency informs. Launcher orbited the first Peruvian satellite ERS-1 and PerúSAT spacecrafts SkySat, 4, 5, 6, 7 for US operator Terra Bella, owned by Google.
The “Vega” booster was developed by the European Space Agency (ESA), together with the Italian Space Agency (ASI). Rocket engine RD-843 for the 4th stage of the launcher was developed by the Ukrainian State Enterprise ‘Design Bureau Pivdenne’ and produced by the Southern Machine-Building Plant.
Designated Flight VV07, this was European commercial launch service Arianespace’s first launch of 2016 and seventh consecutive successful launch by Vega, the latest member of the Arianespace launcher family, introduced at the Guiana Space Center in 2012. Vega is especially well suited to the dynamic Earth observation market. With this launch it starts a fully-fledged commercial operation, and already has nine future launches in its order book.
