Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region, under the procedural guidance of the Kharkiv prosecutor’s office, warned of sabotage at the critical infrastructure.
Special forces operatives together with the soldiers of the special unit of the SBU “A” detained a resident of the Kharkiv region after laying out and attempting to activate an explosive device on the territory of the Dnepr water treatment complex at KP Kharkivvodokanal in Krasnopavlivka village.
According to the detainee, in February 2019 he was recruited by officers of the FSB of the Russian Federation in the city of Belgorod (Russia) and committed this crime according to their instructions.
The saboteur laid explosives in the immediate vicinity of a container with chlorine, which is technologically involved in the water treatment system and, in the event of damage, cannot be recovered. According to preliminary data, the power of explosives is equivalent to two kilograms of TNT.
The explosion could lead to a destabilization of the social and economic situation in the region due to the cessation of water supply in the cities of Kharkiv and Lozova.
The saboteur was declared a suspicion of committing a crime under Article 113 (“Sabotage”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing a preventive measure.
