Yesterday, the SBU head Vasyl Hrytsak announced that assassination of Verkhovna Rada deputy was prevented in Kyiv.
Two Ukrainian citizens, imprisoned in occupied Crimea, volunteered to assassinate Herashchenko. Afterwards, they were released on parole.
According to investigators, they were supervised by Russian mercenary Andrey Tikhonov (former citizen of Ukraine). The suspects put Herashchenko under surveillance.
At the same time, the police officers watched the suspects for about a month. They were detained when the SBU collected enough proofs of assassination attempt.
Criminal proceedings have been opened under article 112 (assassination attempt on state official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigators are verifying the suspects’ involvement in other crimes, in particular, the assassination of journalist Pavlo Sheremet.
