State of emergency declared in Avdiivka


A state of emergency has been introduced in Ukraine’s town of Avdiivka due to the recent escalation in hostilities.

Head of the Donetsk regional civil-military administration Pavlo Zhebrivskyi said.

“A state of emergency have been declared in Avdiivka. I’ve come to the town. We’ve set up a regional coordination center consisting of the town leadership, security forces, rescue workers and representatives of local enterprises,” he wrote.

Later Zhebrivskyi added: “As of midnight, the temperature inside home batteries was 35-40 degrees. The indoor temperature was 16-17 degrees above zero. Avdiivka Coke Plant ensures the circulation of agent in town’s heating system.

“Avdiivka hospitals have powerful diesel generators and are operating normally. Two schools and a kindergarten also use autonomous heating.

“The State Emergency Service is sending additional hardware to Avdiivka: powerful generators, heat guns, large tents, stoves, kitchens, water and food. The coordination center does its best to ensure that hot food will be delivered in the morning.”

The fighting in the vicinity of Avdiivka has been underway since late Saturday, Jan. 28. Ukrainian soldiers bravely hold their lines, according to the military sources.

Three days into fighting, Ukrainian soldiers have managed to take enemy positions and improved their tactical set-up in the area. Unfortunately, casualties were reported among the military.

On Jan. 30, enemy strikes left the government-controlled town of Avdiivka without electricity, water and heat.
