Ukrainian An-124 takes largest jet engine to Canadian permafrost zone

An-124 Ruslan aircraft (tail number UR-82007), produced by Ukraine’s Antonov Serial Production Plant, has delivered a biggest aircraft engine to the area of permafrost.

A General Electric GE90 engine for a Swiss Airlines Boeing 777-300ER has been delivered from Zurich to the airport of the Canadian city of Iqaluit.

The city is located on the shores of the Arctic Ocean in the permafrost zone. As the An-124 was landing, the temperature in Iqaluit was 29 degrees Celsius below frost.

The necessity to deliver the engine came after a Swiss Airlines Boeing aircraft made an emergency landing at a local airport due to the failure of one of its engines.
