The first batch of main battle tanks arrived in Poland from the United States as part of the effort to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank.

“The U.S. military posted a picture showing offloading of the first M1 Abrams main battle tank on the Polish soil. This is not the first such equipment in Poland, but the first tank detachment redeployed by NATO to the east,” TVN24.pl news outlet said.

The photo was posted by the 16th Sustainment Brigade providing logistical support all across the European Theater. The Brigade members are in charge of offloading the equipment and its further delivery to the destination point.

As reported, 250 U.S. troops, including command and engineering battalions from airport Wroclaw will be sent to military units of Poland, and military installations of the country.

Earlier, the U.S. military started offloading equipment in the German seaport of Bremerhaven on Jan. 6 as part of the Operation Atlantic Resolve.

4,000 troops and 87 main battle tanks of the 3rd Armored Brigade and the 4th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army are planned to be deployed in Eastern and Central Europe.

Back in April, the U.S. announced its plans to deploy an armored brigade in Eastern Europe as part of NATO’s efforts to counter Russia’s aggressive policy.
